Last Tulips

Original varnished watercolour 20″ x 20″ (framed)

Original watercolour on arches 300lb paper permanently mounted on 3/4″ wood panel. The surface is fully sealed with archival varnish. The deckled edges of the watercolour paper are exposed and the sides of the panel are finished in white. The painting is float framed with a silver and white custom frame. The outside dimensions of the frame are 21.5″ x 21.5″.

Last Tulips captures a moment of beauty, light, and reflection that will inevitably pass as the sun shifts, flowers wilt, and objects are forgotten. For me, this painting evokes thoughts of remembrance and the passage of time. Here, the last tulips of the season glow with the surrounding antiques, caught in a fleeting moment of contemplation. Reflections through the glass create swirls that seem to embrace the surrounding objects, connecting them together in memory.

Last Tulips was featured in the 2021 Victoria Federation of Canadian Artist’s “Somewhere in Time” Exhibition.
