Inspired by Venice, the title Transient Tide refers to the shifting, transient nature of the building. As light flooded into the narrow passage, I was drawn to the building’s weathered texture and decaying walls. Built on water, I imagine all the stories this building has to tell, its transformation over the years, rise and fall like a tide, certain yet fluctuating. I wanted to capture a sense of magnitude, as the building appears to extend and fade into the sky.
This painting was awarded a merchandise award at the 2021 Women in Watercolour International Juried Exhibition for the Landscape Category. It was also awarded the Peoples Choice Award at the 2011 Sidney Fine Arts Show.
